Amethyst is a stunning member of the quartz family. The striking purple hues of this meditative and calming gem range from pale lilacs to deep purple; colors linked with royalty since the dawn of time. Legend heralds that amethyst originated when Bacchus, the God of Wine, vowed the next mortal to cross his path would be destroyed. Amethyst, a beautiful young maiden, was on her way to worship the Goddess Diana, who knew of the vow and turned Amethyst into a pillar of colorless quartz to protect her. Bacchus, witnessing the miracle repented and poured wine over Amethyst, staining her purple. Amethyst has a gentle sedative energy, promoting peacefulness, contentment and
emotional stability.
